Each
and every position of football comes with its own set of roles and
responsibilities. There are position-specific training options available, such
as linebacker training, training for lineman football, wide
receiver training, etc. One of the
most vital elements of the game of football is snatching the ball correctly and
quickly. This is your role and responsibility if you are a long snapper. As a
long snapper, you will be responsible for snatching the ball as fast as
possible. You will also specialize in the center during punts. Snatching the
ball away is not as easy as it sounds, as every player from the opposition will
have you in their sight.
To
excel at long snapping, you must master the fundamentals of this position. The
only way to do this is by engaging in football
long snapper training drills that includes various exercise to improve
them. The fundamentals of this position include
·
Snap
The
snap is basically a movement that is continuous which makes use of arms, hands
and wrists. You must snatch the ball and throw it to the quarterback quickly.
You must also throw the ball as far away as possible. Even though the snap
movement lasts only for a couple of seconds, there are a number of things that
must be considered before making the snatch. A few examples include the
distance to throw the ball, the grip, the strength, etc. To be successful as a
long snapper, you must perfect the snapping technique.
·
Stance
You
must have a comfortable stance as this provides a solid foundation. Your stance
should be such that you can maintain balance and control and yet at the same
time have full movement of your arms through the lower body. Also, the distance
between your feet should not be more than the distance between your shoulders.
An accurate stance is very critical to the snap movement.
·
Position
of Arms and Hands
You
are the only player touching the ball. Therefore, you must ensure that your
grip is favorable to snatching and throwing the ball quickly and correctly.
Your hand and arm positions are extremely critical, and you must also excel at
handling the ball.
Training
in these fundamentals will help you advance your game to the next level. Along
with working on these, you can also engage in football long snapping
training as well as strength training for long snappers. This will help you
become a well-developed player and improve your overall game play.
