Strength Training For Long Snappers And Its Importance



Each position in football comes with its attached set of goals. The game starts when the long snapper snatches the ball. As such, the most crucial part of the game is to snatch the ball correctly and quickly. As a long snapper, your main role is to snap the ball as quickly as possible. It is not as easy as it sounds as each and every member of the opposition will have their eye on you. To be a better long snapper, not only do you need to concentrate on the techniques but also on strength and weight training. 

Position-specific training camps are places where the coaches are involved in teaching long snapping football. Such camps also help you work on your skills and techniques. Sometimes they also design a training program that includes strength and weight training for long snappers

Importance of Strength Training

In order to improve your sports performance, physical ability and athleticism, research has shown that you must participate in various training sessions apart from just playing football. This training consists of exercises, drills and workouts that is not included in their skill training. Engaging in these workout will increase your speed, strength, flexibility and conditioning. Football Strength training workout also reduces the chances of injuries. 

Strength Training

There are different phases for strength training for long snappers, which are:

Phase 1 – In this phase, you focus on the body weight and stability exercises which improves core strength, balance and flexibility. Imbalances are eliminated in this phase.

Phase 2 – This is a continuation of phase one where you must engage in various workouts. Each of these workouts consist of a strength movement which is followed by a stabilization drill. These exercises are challenging enough to increase your muscular endurance and strength. 

Phase 3 – This is the phase where you build the necessary muscle by performing various routines. 

Phase 4 – In this phase, you develop muscular strength so that you can outmuscle and beat the opponents by engaging in a full body routine. 

Phase 5 – This is the final phase where you learn to transfer strength into the power and explosiveness required out on the field. 

Strength training along with long snapper weight training and football long snapping training drills will help you become one of the best long snappers.
